LivOrg Project

LivOrg is a Leonardo da Vinci, Development of Innovation, funded project led by ERIFO (Italy) with the cooperation of organizations from Spain, Greece, Italy, Estonia, Germany and Poland.  LivOrg project addresses the increasingly relevance of the Organic Farming system in Europe organizing a harmonic and common VET (Vocational Education and Training) framework in the organic livestock management area and encouraging the conversion from high-input agriculture to organic agriculture systems. The organic farming and livestock sector has gone a long way since it was first regulated at the EU level. The role of the farmer in Europe is changing, as farmers have to develop new skills to be competitive. In a global word, they need to become more entrepreneurial and must increasingly add land management and environmental expertise. There is also a growing demand in the organic movement for guidance and direction of the sector, as well as a shared interest among the members to be more active in shaping the future of organics.  Organic livestock is right one of the areas where the skills of organic farmers are most important and most frequently called upon and where organic farmers are requested to have well skilled professional producers. There are many practices and visions involved in this field, all of which are designed to provide livestock with comfortable and stress-free lives in accordance with their natural needs. Following up on this demand, needs and interest, LivOrg Consortium will be cooperating in a detailed two-year work programme to develop innovative training solutions for young and adults learners wishing to work in the farming sector and develop new skills to be competitive in the organic world. Through the activities, LivOrg Consortium aims to develop and reinforce specific sector skills alliances bringing together stakeholders from different European Countries and sharing goals with organisations and institutions to continue to expand the scope of organic farming beyond the project lifetime.

The LivOrg project aims to develop and deliver a sector specific curriculum with a strong package of “VET” Units in organic livestock management tightly connected to the European Qualifications Framework (EQF) and the European Credit system for Vocational Education and Training (ECVET) for the transfer and recognition of organic farmers´ skills in EU.

The LivOrg Project objectives are to:

  • Increase the awareness of organic livestock management area to meet the sector and policymakers’ needs in EU improving the system to be competitive with conventional processes.
  • Extend the sector skills alliance activities reinforcing the effective cooperation between organic farmers and stakeholders.
